failed emmisions

I know there are many threads on this subject and I read through almost all of them. I have JDM Aristo engine and it failed emissions with high NOx. Most of the threads are on USDM MK3S. Any ideas on what part of the emission system is causing this problem? I have a 3" catback exhaust with a high flo cat. I'm running at 16psi peak. NGK plugs gapped to .32. Here are my numbers. Failed NOx.

GAS STANDARD READING

NOx 1077 1886
HC 144 104
CO% 0.81 0.72

Thanks for any input.

There is no EGR because its a JDM motor.
This... is why you fail... lol

EGR exists to control NOx emissions. How it works is beyond the scope of this post. Just know that you need one. You'll have to swap to a USDM head and intake manifold so that you can bolt an EGR up. The you'll have to find a way to control it. If done right, it should pass as clean as any US spec model.

^ i disagree.

zazzn ran his aristo car untouched and he passed with flying colors, with way better emissions results than most newer cars.

my car passed with flying colors without an egr as well.

something is wrong with your engine or the way it is running like said above, maybe timing. the silencer added to the backpressure which creates more heat, and that's what NOx is, so i might try pulling that silencer. also check codes, air filter, pcv

1. NOx is a result of high heat and compression
2. EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) lets exhaust gasses(CO2) back into the intake manifold to take up space as an "inert to burn" gas, thus lowering the temperatures in the combustion chamber.
3. NOT ALL CARS HAVE/NEED EGR, i live in cali neither of my 2 porsche 944's had egr. so i read up on it.

100% correct!

The guys above were able to pass because they were not being tested by CA standards.

It is true that many cars do not use an EGR, and I can't tell you exactly how they manage to emit low NOx. I have not personally done enough research. Can anybody shed some light on this for me?

Hindenburg didn't explode it cough fire and as the mix of helium and hydrogen was escaping it just burned, unable to keep ballast it dropped to the ground. They really need to get the education system in this country sorted out. Speaking of this country "we"(USA) refused to sell the German blimp helium and sold them hydrogen instead.

This is 1JZ that sat for at least 6 months, had new plugs, Tbelt and all that jazz.
Factory ypipe, 3inch downpipe bolted to factory NA Cat/Exhaust.
These are the results, tested in Cali, and Passed just fine.

This is from an old post, cant find the smog paper to show the NOx but, it passed either way so, their you have it.

Idle - Max - Results
HC - 120 - 107
CO - 1.00 - 0.03

2500RPM - Max - Results
HC - 140 - 40
CO - 1.00 - 0.04

I have'nt gone back yet. Do you know how many times you're allowed to fail
before they tell you have to get it fixed? And if you don't pass do you know
of somewhere? If you know what I mean. PM me if you know someone.
