Would you rather upgrade a 7M-GTE or swap in a 1JZ-GTE

because I can get a Turbo USDM Supra for $4000
or a Non-turbo USDM Supra for $1200
both have excellent bodies, the NA one has a high mileage engine.

I can get a full 1JZ-GTE conversion kit from Toysport for around $4000.

wondering if it would be wiser in the long run to upgrade a 1JZ or a 7M

Well that depends on your car. I was thinking about the same thing..
a 7m-gte swap costs somewhere around 2k-2.5k. 1jz is in my personal opinion a better engine overal, as the 2jz is basically a bored 1j. and we all know how far the 2jz has been. but the costs for a 1jz i think are considerablly higher. You have to find parts for it, some of which can be used from 2jz from what I have read, but i am not sure about it.

and support / knowledge of a 1jz i think is pretty hard to find around here. Atleast i haven't found very much.

p.s. from my understanding costs of a 1jz conversion is close to a 2jz..

Within a month-I can offer full 1jz conversions, with the transmission, torsen rear ends and bilstien suspension for around 5300 installed, with all your factory options still functioning(minus tems, but could likely get that to work if you wanted it.) In about a month, my engine importer will have 2 five speeds and one auto clip coming-all jza70 supra clips. The auto maybe cheaper-will need to find that out.BTW mine should be wrapped up this weekend-here is a picture of what a "clip" looks like..

sup eric,

man, that looks awesome. congrats on a very clean, and, hope i dont jinx anything, successful swap. one quick question, if i was to get the pipe off the TB with a flange welded on for a SSQV, do you think it would fit alright on the battery side? it looks like there is enough room. just wanted to hear your take on it. later on.

ps, what did you do for motor mounts? or did your car already have the fluid ones? thanx.

that where I'm going to be mounting mine at-I just went out and checked it-looks to be enough room. I snapped a pic of me just holding it there.I love my 100 dollar digi cam-best thing I've bought in awhile. I already had the fluid mounts in mine-rumor has it you can use the old stlye ones though....

why do u need to change the suspension for??? is it required?

yeah they do an engine swap for 5000. I swap the engine and the torsen 4:10rear end(you will not even get this from them, let alone have it installed) I also will swap the tach into the cluster)and get it to work right) and leave your 7m body harnesses unhacked. Call them up and ask how they do it and what all gets swapped. Ask them how well their engines are tested first. Mine come from an importer whos goes to Japan drives the cars and then buys them-whole. I also get all the emblems, driveshafts and full suspension setup. All this for 300 more. You tell me who has the better deal.

No not required at all. I decided to remove the tems, and went with the setup that was included with my clip. The clip did not have tems, and would habe been more difficult to add it in, and really I was tired of the tokico/eibach combo and wanted to try something else...

why the heck would you deal w/toysport!?!? i have heard way too many bad stories....

toypro- what is up w/the torsen rear end!??! when did they put that in the mk3?!?! hook me up! ;)

they come only in the turboR models-4:10 torsen lsd. The whole rear end assembly needs to be changed as it bolts up different. I might be able to source one-I'll let you know--

toypro-
this sounds very interesting to me as i am about to upgrade my 7m-ge to gte. and a 1jz swap sounds even better.
What do you swap out? is there any work you do to the engine at all? or is the engine, etc. swapped in "as in" condition?
